About

Sugargoous

Last reviewed

Sugargoous is an editorial review site for people who love sweets. We are based in Portland, Oregon, and founded in 2021. Our small team buys candies, chocolates, gummies, desserts, and other sugar-forward products at retail, then tests them hands-on in our test kitchen.

We are not a marketplace. We do not sell products. We write reviews, comparisons, and buying guides to help you decide what is worth your money. Every product we feature is ordered by us and tasted by at least two editors. We log our findings, take photos, and score each product on a five-point scale.

Our team includes three editors with backgrounds in food writing, confectionery retail, and sensory evaluation. We follow a written testing SOP and update our reviews when products change. We are funded by affiliate commissions and do not accept payment for reviews.

If you have a correction or a product suggestion, email editorial@sugargoous.com.

Reading our coverage

Our confectionery comparisons help readers distinguish flavor preference from texture, freshness and packaging performance across candies, chocolate, gummies and desserts.

Clara Winslow

Chocolate, confectionery trends, sensory evaluation

Clara Winslow is Editor in Chief, covering chocolate, confectionery trends, and sensory evaluation. They oversee all editorial content and personally test chocolates and caramels. Every chocolate review uses a blind tasting in a tempered room at 66°F, with attention to snap, shine, and melt. Each sample is logged under a code, and Clara does not see the brand names until the scores are final, keeping the sensory observations and scoring process tied to the coded sample record.

Gummies, sour candies, licorice, international sweets

Marcus Lee is Reviews Editor, covering gummies, sour candies, licorice, and international sweets. They manage the review calendar and lead gummy and sour-candy testing. For gummies, Marcus tests both at room temperature and after refrigeration, using a five-point texture scale to assess chewiness, springiness, and stickiness. They also track how flavors fade over time, bringing observations of texture under different temperature conditions together with the changes in flavor that occur during testing.

Ingredient sourcing, sugar science, dietary trends, labeling

Priya Raman is Research Editor, covering ingredient sourcing, sugar science, dietary trends, and labeling. They verify ingredient lists, nutrition panels, and sourcing claims for every Sugargoous review, comparing product labels with manufacturer websites and third-party databases. Priya calculates sugar content per serving, flags discrepancies, and checks for allergen cross-contamination risks. They also manage the retest calendar, linking the review's label checks and calculations with the desk's scheduling of follow-up testing.
