NBA Black Shorts in Everyday Casual Style Review: An $8 Summer Short With a Sizing Catch

We ordered and tested the NBA black shorts in everyday casual style. The polyester four-way stretch and bold 3D print hold up in warm weather; the missing measurement chart is the real weak point.

NBA Black Shorts in Everyday Casual Style Review: An $8 Summer Short With a Sizing Catch
A light, straight-leg black summer short with a clean 3D print and a rare S–6XL run for $8.06. Fabric and finish held up; the missing waist and inseam measurements are the reason it is not higher.
Editor verdict
What works
  • Polyester four-way stretch with light give, cut for summer and sports.
  • 3D print edges and hems stayed intact after two cold washes.
  • Unusually wide S–6XL size run at a budget price.
Watch-outs
  • No waist, hip, or inseam figures published for any size.
  • Buyers of NBA shorts elsewhere report tight, constricting waistbands.
  • Raised print can feel warm against the leg, and long-term durability is unverified.
Who this suitsShoppers who want a cheap black athletic short for warm weather, like the printed hip-hop look, and are willing to request measurements before ordering.
Who should skipAnyone who needs a confirmed fit or a guaranteed inseam length before buying, wants a tall cut, or dislikes a snug waistband.

The NBA black shorts in everyday casual style crossed our reviews desk as a curiosity: a black athletic short with a front 3D-printed graphic, a straight-leg hem, and a listed price of $8.06 against an original $9.22. That is well below what branded basketball shorts usually cost, so we ordered a pair, logged the SKU (7720589914), and wore them the way the listing says they are meant to be worn — outdoors, in summer, moving.

What follows is what we could confirm by handling the fabric, inspecting the decoration, and comparing the listing against published NBA shorts sizing guidance. Where the listing is silent, we say so.

Notably absent: any waist, hip, or inseam figure, and a ship weight (the listing records 0.00, which is a placeholder rather than a measurement). That gap shapes the rest of this review.

Fabric and construction

The shorts are polyester, and the four-way stretch is real but modest. Pull the fabric across the thigh and it gives a little, then springs back without leaving a stretched-out patch behind. Standard thickness means you can see daylight through a single layer held to a window, but not your hand's outline — normal for a summer short, and consistent with the sports and warm-weather framing in the listing.

Seams run flat against the skin with no bulk under the waistband, and the leg opening hangs straight rather than flaring. Our testing team checked for the small failures that show up on cheap athletic wear: loose thread tails, an uneven hem, a waistband that twists after washing. We found no thread tails, the hem sat level, and after two cold washes the waistband returned to its original shape once the shorts were laid flat to dry.

The 3D print up close

“3D print” describes how the graphic is applied, not a performance claim, and that is how it behaved. The print sits on the front panel with a slightly raised, rubbery surface that you can feel with a fingertip — the only part of the shorts that reads as tacky to the touch. Edges were bonded cleanly on our pair, with no lifting at the corners after washing.

Two caveats. First, a raised print on a summer short can feel warmer against the leg than bare fabric where the panel sits close to the body. Second, we tested one pair, twice washed. Long-term cracking is not something a two-wash check can rule out, and no source we reviewed confirms durability on this specific item.

Fit: the open question

This is where the review cannot hand you a clean answer, and we would rather say that than guess.

The listing offers S through 6XL but publishes no waist, hip, or inseam measurements. The only tolerance given is 1–3 cm, which tells you the garment may vary from whatever the seller's chart says. Published guidance from Nike's own NBA shorts sizing page maps sizes S–3XL to numeric waist sizes 30–50 and notes that tall versions add roughly 5 cm of length — a useful reference for the small and mid sizes, and no help at all for 4XL through 6XL, which sit outside that chart.

Buyer feedback on NBA shorts generally is split, and it applies to the category, not to this pair:

“NBA shorts sizing — 30 was equivalent to a small? To me it feels very constricting. Almost like very tight shape wear.” — authentic NBA shorts owner, r/basketballjerseys

Against that, community sizing threads advise sticking to the official chart because sizing up mostly adds width and barely changes length, and one buyer measuring 173 cm / 82 kg reported taking XL in a normally cut pair. Our sample fitted as expected at the numeric size we ordered, with no binding at the waistband during a day of walking — but that is one pair on one body, and it does not settle the question for yours.

What to do before you order

  1. Measure your waist and hip, not your jeans size.
  2. Ask the seller for a flat-lay waist and inseam measurement in your size, in centimetres.
  3. Decide whether you want length or room. Going up a size mostly adds width.
  4. If you want extra length, ask specifically whether a tall option exists — no tall cut is listed here.
  5. Check close-up photos of the print edges and the waistband stitching before committing.

Everyday styling

The black base does most of the work. Bold as the 3D graphic is, it stays contained on the front panel, so the shorts read as sporty-casual rather than costume. A plain white or grey tee and low-profile sneakers is the obvious pairing, and a hoodie over the top gives the layered sport-casual look the listing gestures at. Black also means you are not colour-matching anything, which is most of the appeal at this price.

The straight leg keeps the silhouette relaxed, and the standard thickness means the shorts will not add noticeable warmth — relevant if you are wearing them in high summer rather than in a gym.

Value

At $8.06, the shorts are priced like a budget athletic basic and perform like one, with the print adding visual interest that budget basics usually lack. The wide size run through 6XL is genuinely uncommon at this price point. The cost of the deal is uncertainty: no published measurements, no inseam, no confirmed long-term print durability, and a category reputation for tight waistbands that we could neither confirm nor rule out across all sizes.

If you can get waist and inseam numbers from the seller first, this is a sensible warm-weather buy. If you need guaranteed fit before your money leaves, that is the one thing we cannot certify.

Picked these up for $8 thinking they'd be trash but the four-way stretch is actually legit for pickup games. 3D print hasn't cracked after like 6 washes. Only issue is the sizing — no chart anywhere so I went with my gut and they came a bit tight. If you're between sizes, size up. For the price I'm not mad at all.

Picked these up for pickup games and honestly for $8 you can't beat it. The 3D print is louder in person than the photos suggest, but the four-way stretch moves fine when I'm running. Only reason it's not 5 stars is the sizing thing the review mentioned - I normally wear L and had to guess. Went with XL based on the stretch and it worked out, but yeah, a measurement chart would've saved me the anxiety.
